About Karine GADRE
As an Astronomer (I got my Ph.D. at the University of Toulouse, France, in 2008), I love Nature : taking the time to look at the Sky, the Earth and the Underground, taking colored as well as black & white photographs of the beautiful region I am lucky to inhabit : the Occitania region, southern France. Part of my professional website (www.culturediff.org) is dedicated to the PhotoExploration of the Occitania region, and every picture is accompanied by a short text or poem focusing on one of the aspects of the relating picture : the vastness of our Universe, the content and form of our galaxy, the Milky Way, the stunning shining clouds in the sky, the southerly wind that shapes then blows them, the variety of landscapes (from the Mediterranean Sea to the Pyrenean chain going through the Lauragais plain) that makes up the Occitania region, the vegetation that covers every landscapes, the historical monuments (castles, churchs, etc.) that fill it, the numerous caves that were digged by water and for some inhabited by prehistoric men and women, etc. Further details ...
As an Astronomer (I regularly develop numerical simulations, softwares, Websites, etc.), I love technology : taking the time to take a photograph with an adequate camera body (I most often use the SIGMA dp Quattro series for their richness in colors and details restitution), to develop digital images well beyond the now traditional derrawtization process, thanks to image processing algorithms developed by contemporary mathematicians and physicists. Hence the launching, with an artist friend, of a new artistic language called Digital PhotoGraphism, which lies in direct line with an artistic practice called Polaroid Art, born in the 1970s and which consists in altering the classic process of developing instant silver shots. Digital PhotoGraphism offers a renewed vision of the surrounding Nature, of the Occitania region in this case. It thus asserts itself as a new figurative art at the frontiers of abstraction: the references and the recognizable disappear in favour of visible effects, geometric shapes, pure or abundant lines, unique or intertwined colours.
